LÉON IN WINTERTIME: Meet Léon, an 8-year-old adopted bear suffering from an identity crisis. The distraught cub runs away from home in wintertime and embarks on many adventures. He stands up to an ogre and saves a princess from ending up in a pea stew. His courage eventually leads him back to his parents, who work as beekeepers. Pure, tender and as sweet as honey, this is a delightful tale.
MOLLY IN SPRINGTIME: While the spring carnival is in full swing in the capital of Balthazar’s kingdom, the “bloated belly” disease is spreading. Princess Molly who has her doubts about the true intentions of Bonifacio the storyteller, enlists the help of her friend Léon the bear. The young couple investigate and outwit the Machiavellic plans of the would-be doctor.
Tomorrow – Jan 25th – come back to see the next two seasons of Léon’s Animated Stories – Bonifacio in Summertime and Poppety in the Fall.

HOWTOONS Nick Dragotta, Ingrid Dragotta and Saul Griffith , 30 min. What happens when you take a comic book artist, an inventor, and a toy designer? You get Howtoons. Their mission : to provide engaging content that teaches kids how to build things, combining instruction with storytelling.
Join Nick Dragotta(comic artist), Saul Griffith(inventor), and Ingrid Dragotta(toy designer) as they take science and engineering and inspiring creativity and show you how to make interesting, crazy toys, gadgets and gizmos out of everyday objects.
The HOWTOONS crew will also be on hand throughout the festival doing FREE workshops in the __________

Athena Studios –MERMAIDS ON MARS by Jon Peters 20 mins, USA, 2015. A scientist’s beliefs cost him his job and reputation. His son Julian discovers that everything his father talked about is true, however, as he is transported to Mars to find the planet’s last remaining water, mermaids and a love-struck Martian who will stop at nothing to get the mermaid he desires! Director Jon Peters and Producers Kat Alioshin and Nancy Guettier will present how this stop-motion, animated, musical film is being created. (This is a very special sneak peek at a a work in progress. Our hope is to show the finished film at BAICFF 2016)

During the day all the tiny films being shot by our young filmmakers in the Pixilation and Clay Animation workshops have been edited together with sound and music added by film students from Berkeley City College to create an assembly of today’s films for our filmmakers ( and their parents ) to see up on the big screen. Come see the films and applaud our young filmmakers as they take their bow!

Join us as we celebrate two great Bay Area youth filmmaking organizations. Together they are reaching hundreds of kids and teaching them about storytelling, filmmaking and collaboration. Come see the films they are making and learn how you might get involved.

The Digital Divide is not news anymore. But it continues to grow and evolve. Many young people in the Bay Area’s underserved neighborhoods are being left behind. They are not equipped to build a future in the digital creative field. That’s what BAYCAT is changing.Through education, employment and entertainment in digital media, we empower underserved youth and young adults, helping them find their place in the world.
Camp Reel Stories Esther Pearl and Camp Reel Stories youth filmmakers, 25 min
In 2015 Camp Reel Stories will offer beginning and advanced media summer camps for teen girls. Working in small, collaborative groups, this camp gives the campers the opportunity to make and broadcast their own short films through: Production Classes – Media Literacy – Leadership Workshops.

The Great Green Innovation / Green Imagination Challenge!
We had big dreams of showing a selection each day of shorts around a theme of innovative ideas to help with the climate crisis. Films that kids would find interesting and inspiring. Sadly our search was only mildly successful. There are a lot of films out there about the climate crisis but they are dire and bleak focusing on the causes and the dire future ahead. Some films we did find about innovation were told in such a way that most kids and frankly most adults would be bored. So we here at BAICFF are offering up a challange to all the brave, imaginative, amazing school groups, film clubs, film organizations and filmmakers of the Bay Area and beyond :
Make a short film to inspire us about innovative things, ideas , actions people are taking to solve the climate crisis! We call it THE GREAT GREEN INNOVATION / GREEN IMAGINATION CHALLENGE!
Join us, first to watch INERTIA, a film that pretty much spells out one of the big hurdles that most of us have in going green and changing our lifestyles in a word – Inertia. Then let’s look at the smattering of films we did find about people trying to do something different or people who did think different as examples of films we here at BAICFF want to see more of! Then let’s kick off the Great Green Innovation / Green Imagination Challenge!

To kick off this very special evening event, in true Pixar tradition, there will be a short before the feature, once more, Ralph Eggleston’s hillarious Academy Award winning short film:

WALL•Eby Andrew Stanton, 98 mins, USA 2008. What if mankind had to leave Earth and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreds of years doing what he was built for, WALL•E discovers a new purpose in life when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL•E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report to the humans. Meanwhile, WALL•E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion one of the most imaginative adventures ever brought to the big screen.
Q&A following, about the production design and look of WALL•E with Production Designer – Ralph Eggleston and moderated by WALL•E’s end titles director and BAICFF co-director Jim Capobianco.
